Why IGNOU study centres bounce assignment files

Most rejections are identification errors, not weak answers. The counter is matching a bundle to an enrolment number, not grading prose.

What actually gets a file sent back

  • Enrolment number on the cover does not match the ID card
  • Two or three course codes in one folder or one PDF
  • Typed theory answers where the programme still wants handwriting
  • No receipt, so a later “missing marks” complaint has nothing to show

Evaluators mark answers. The person at the window only has to file you. If they cannot file you, the bundle never reaches an evaluator. That is why a neat essay still comes back.

The cover is a matching key, not decoration

Write the enrolment number from the ID card, not from the application SMS. Registration numbers and ABC IDs are the usual mix-up. One swapped digit sends the marks to a neighbour’s grade card — or to nowhere.

The assignment front page format lists every field the Delhi-1 June 2025 notice named. Generate the sheet with the front page tool if your handwriting turns 8s into 3s.

Typed files still fail most ODL theory courses

A printout of ChatGPT answers, even with a cover, is not a Tutor Marked Assignment for BAG, BCOMG, MEG and most similar codes. The submission rules are blunt: your hand, your words, A4, blue or black pen.

Online upload does not change that. The PDF is a scan of handwriting. Photographing a laptop screen of a Word file is still a typed assignment.

Online: one PDF, under 10 MB, cover first

Regional centres that opened a portal this cycle usually want one file per course. Cover, then ID if asked, then questions, then answers. A 28 MB HEIC dump from an iPhone fails the size check before anyone reads a word.

Photograph the pages with the handwritten scanner, or merge a generated cover with an already-scanned answer file. Name it EnrolmentNumber-CourseCode.pdf unless the notice says otherwise.

Keep paper proof

If the assignment column stays blank after six weeks, the stamped receipt is the only document the centre will discuss. A WhatsApp “yes received” from a coordinator is not a record in their register.

Photocopy the whole assignment before you leave it. If the original is lost in transit between centre and evaluator, the photocopy plus the receipt is how a re-submission starts.

Frequently asked questions

Can a bounced file be submitted again in the same cycle?
Usually yes, if the last date has not passed and you fix the identification error. Once the window closes, that course waits for the next cycle.
Does a typed cover page count as a typed assignment?
No. The cover may be printed. The answers must still be handwritten unless your programme has said otherwise in writing.
