How to calculate IGNOU percentage

Assignment marks are 30%, the term-end exam is 70%, and a letter on the grade card is a range — not a single number.

The formula for one course

For most theory courses: course % = (assignment % × 0.3) + (TEE % × 0.7). If the assignment is out of 100 and the exam is out of 100, that is the same as (assignment marks × 0.3) + (exam marks × 0.7).

The 40% floor

Many undergraduate theory courses require 40% overall and 40% in the term-end exam. In the example above, 55.2% overall would pass, but a TEE of 32 out of 100 would not — even with a perfect assignment. Confirm the minima in your programme guide.

Letters on the grade card

IGNOU also prints a letter. Treat it as a band, not a conversion formula.

If a job form asks for an exact percentage, use the numeric marks, or attach the grade card. Do not invent a midpoint and call it official.

Frequently asked questions

Do I add every course and divide by the number of courses?
Only if the organisation asking for a “percentage” wants an average. IGNOU declares results course by course. There is no single official programme percentage on the grade card.
Are practicals included in the 30/70 split?
Often not. Practicals and projects have their own weight. Read the evaluation scheme for that course code.
