Letter grades only give a range. IGNOU does not publish an official single percentage for a letter.

What the letters on a grade card mean

Common IGNOU letter-grade bands for theory courses
LetterUsual percentage band
A80% and above
B60–79%
C50–59%
D40–49%
EBelow 40%

A letter is a band, not a single number. If a job form asks for an exact percentage, use the marks printed on the grade card, not a guessed midpoint.

Frequently asked questions

Does IGNOU publish an official letter-to-percentage formula?
No. Letters describe a range. Use the numeric marks on the grade card when a form asks for an exact percentage.
Should I average every course to get a programme percentage?
Only if the form asking for it says so. IGNOU results are course-wise. Some employers want an average of completed theory courses; others want the latest grade card attached as-is.
