How to download your IGNOU ID card
The plastic card is slow. The file the university lets you print is what study centres and exam halls actually look at in the first months.

Where the file actually lives
IGNOU does not keep one immortal ID-card URL. Recent notices have pointed at Student Support on ignou.ac.in and, for some services, the student login on ignou.samarth.edu.in. Follow the notice for your admission cycle.
- You need an enrolment number. The application / registration number from the admission form will not open the card.
- Lookalike “ID card 2026” pages that ask for a fee or an OTP to a private number are not the university.
- Regional centres sometimes print a local copy if the portal is down. That is a backup, not a second identity.
If the PDF asks for a password
On several cycles the password printed in the notice is the enrolment number. Try it with and without spaces. Then try date of birth in the format the notice shows (DDMMYYYY vs DD-MM-YYYY). Three wrong guesses lock some readers — download the file again.
If the photo or name is wrong
Do not keep using a card that does not match you at the exam gate. Write to the regional centre with the enrolment number, a clear photo, and a copy of the admission form. Changing the photo on a random editor is how invigilators stop you.
- Name must match the grade card and the assignment cover page. One spelling for all three.
- A married-name change needs the document the RC lists for that, not a WhatsApp request.
What to carry on TEE day
Carry a print of the digital card plus the hall ticket. Many centres will not accept a phone gallery screenshot. If the plastic card has arrived, take that instead of the print.
