Why your IGNOU assignment front page gets rejected

6 reasons your front page gets rejected

IGNOU study centres check every assignment front page before accepting it. If any required field is missing or incorrect, the assignment may be rejected or returned.

  • Missing required fields — name, enrolment number, course code, programme name, session, and study centre code must all be present.
  • Wrong enrolment number — typing a different number from your ID card will cause the assignment to be misidentified.
  • Wrong course code — each course has a specific code (e.g., MCS-021, BEGLA-136). Submitting the wrong code leads to misrouting.
  • Wrong session — the session (e.g., July 2025, January 2026) must match the current academic session.
  • Missing signature — both the student's signature and the date of submission must be on the front page.
  • Multiple courses on one front page — each course needs its own separate front page and PDF file.

Why a front page error is such a big problem

The front page is not just a formality. IGNOU uses it to identify which student submitted which assignment for which course and session. If the front page is wrong, the system cannot process your assignment correctly.

Wrong enrolment number
Your marks may be assigned to a different student, or the assignment may be discarded entirely.
Wrong course code
Your answers may be evaluated by a tutor for a different course, and the marks will not count.
Wrong session
Older or newer session assignments may be confused, leading to incorrect evaluation.
Missing signature
The assignment may be considered unsigned and therefore invalid.

How to fix a rejected front page

  1. Step 1: Check the rejection reason

Your study centre will usually tell you why the front page was rejected. Note down the exact problem — missing field, wrong number, etc.

  2. Step 2: Regenerate the front page

Use the front page generator tool on this site. Fill in your details correctly and download the new cover page PDF.

  3. Step 3: Print and attach the new front page

Print the new front page and attach it to the front of your assignment. If you submitted online, merge the new front page with your assignment PDF.

  4. Step 4: Resubmit before the last date

Resubmit the corrected assignment before the last date. Get a new stamped receipt as proof of submission.

Front page prevention checklist

Before you submit any IGNOU assignment, go through this checklist to avoid front-page rejection:

  • Use the front page generator — never type the front page manually.
  • Verify your enrolment number against your ID card (not the application number or registration number).
  • Double-check the course code against the current session's question paper.
  • Confirm the session (July 2025 / January 2026) is correct.
  • Sign the front page and write the date of submission.
  • One front page per course — never combine multiple courses behind a single cover.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to fix a rejected front page?
If you regenerate the front page using the tool and resubmit, the fix takes less than 10 minutes. The actual processing time at the study centre depends on when you resubmit relative to the last date.
Will my assignment still be evaluated if the front page is rejected?
It depends on the study centre. Some centres return the assignment immediately. Others may hold it and evaluate it once the correct front page is provided. Contact your centre to clarify their policy.
Can I submit the front page separately from the assignment?
No. The front page must be attached to the assignment as the very first page. For online submissions, merge the front page PDF with your assignment PDF before uploading.
Does the front page generator support all IGNOU courses?
Yes. The front page generator on this site covers all IGNOU programmes including BA, B.Com, BSc, BCA, MA, M.Com, MBA, MCA, and all diploma and certificate courses.
What if I lost my enrolment number?
You can find your enrolment number on your IGNOU ID card, admission confirmation email, or by logging into the IGNOU student portal at sso.ignou.ac.in.
