How to read the IGNOU date sheet

The timetable is a PDF of every course IGNOU is examining that session. Your job is to find your codes — not to memorise someone else’s blog table.

Where the official PDF lives

IGNOU publishes a date sheet PDF on ignou.ac.in before each Term-End Examination. Search the homepage notices for “Date Sheet” plus the session (June or December). That file is the timetable. Secondary websites copy it, then go stale when a paper is rescheduled.

How to find your papers inside the PDF

  1. Step 1: List the course codes you filled on the exam form

    Use the codes from the question papers and the exam-form receipt. Programme name alone will not help — BAG and MEG share the same booklet.

  2. Step 2: Search the PDF for each code

    Ctrl+F / Cmd+F for BEGLA-136, MMPC-001, BCS-011 exactly as printed. Hyphens matter. BCS011 and BCS-011 can sit in different rows.

  3. Step 3: Note date, session and duration

    Morning and afternoon sessions are both used. Duration is usually three hours unless the paper says otherwise.

Write the four or five rows into a note on your phone. Do not screenshot a third-party HTML table. Those tables drop lab and practical papers.

Typical TEE windows — not promises

June TEE
Usually starts in early June and runs several weeks. Hall tickets appear in May.
December TEE
Usually starts in early December and can spill into January.

Those windows shift. Practicals and project vivas follow a separate notice. If your course has a lab, the theory date sheet is not the full story.

If two of your papers share a slot

A clash means two of your registered course codes fall on the same date and session. Two papers on the same day in morning and afternoon are not a clash.

  • Read the date-sheet notice for the clash / overlap procedure that session. It is usually a form to the regional centre, with both course codes.
  • Do this as soon as the PDF is out. Waiting until the week of the exam is how people sit one paper and forfeit the other.
  • The hall ticket will not invent a second slot for you. The centre follows the ticket plus any written permission the RC issued.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app that shows only my dates?
IGNOU does not issue a personal exam calendar. The PDF plus your course-code list is the method. Unofficial apps go out of date when a paper moves.
My study centre gave me different dates.
The PDF on ignou.ac.in wins. Ask the coordinator to show the circular they used. Local printouts are a common source of wrong mornings.
When should I start looking for the date sheet?
A few weeks before that TEE. Searching in January for a June exam will only surface last year’s file.
