How to check your IGNOU admission status
IGNOU processes admissions through both offline (study centre) and online modes. The online mode uses the IGNOU admission portal at ignou.ac.in. Here is how to check your status.
Step 1: Go to the IGNOU admission portal
Visit admissions.ignou.ac.in and click on "Check Admission Status".
Step 2: Enter your programme and personal details
Select your programme code, enter your name, date of birth, and the email or mobile number you used during registration.
Step 3: Submit and check your status
Click Submit. The portal will show your current admission status.
What each status means
The admission portal displays one of several statuses. Here is what each one means:
- Submitted / Under Process
- Your application has been received and is being verified. This is normal and can take 2-4 weeks.
- Confirmed / Eligible
- Your admission is confirmed. Your student ID and enrolment number will be generated soon.
- Rejected
- Your admission was rejected. Common reasons: eligibility criteria not met, incomplete documents, or duplicate application. Check the reason given.
- Pending Documents
- You need to submit additional documents at your study centre or regional centre.
- Not Found
- No record found. You may have used a different email, or the admission cycle has not started yet.
Common reasons for admission rejection
- Minimum eligibility criteria not met (wrong qualification, insufficient percentage)
- Incomplete application — missing documents or signature
- Applying for a programme where you are already admitted
- Registration fee not paid within the deadline
- Incorrect or mismatched personal details
- Applying after the last date for that programme
What to do if your admission is rejected
If your admission is rejected, do not panic. Here are the steps to take:
Step 1: Read the rejection reason
The portal will mention the reason for rejection. Read it carefully.
Step 2: Contact your study centre
If you believe the rejection is a mistake, contact the study centre where you applied. Bring your application receipt and documents.
Step 3: Reapply if eligible
If the rejection is valid, you may be able to reapply for the next admission cycle (January or July).
