How to check your IGNOU admission status

IGNOU processes admissions through both offline (study centre) and online modes. The online mode uses the IGNOU admission portal at ignou.ac.in. Here is how to check your status.

  1. Step 1: Go to the IGNOU admission portal

Visit admissions.ignou.ac.in and click on "Check Admission Status".

  2. Step 2: Enter your programme and personal details

Select your programme code, enter your name, date of birth, and the email or mobile number you used during registration.

  3. Step 3: Submit and check your status

Click Submit. The portal will show your current admission status.

What each status means

The admission portal displays one of several statuses. Here is what each one means:

Submitted / Under Process
Your application has been received and is being verified. This is normal and can take 2-4 weeks.
Confirmed / Eligible
Your admission is confirmed. Your student ID and enrolment number will be generated soon.
Rejected
Your admission was rejected. Common reasons: eligibility criteria not met, incomplete documents, or duplicate application. Check the reason given.
Pending Documents
You need to submit additional documents at your study centre or regional centre.
Not Found
No record found. You may have used a different email, or the admission cycle has not started yet.

Common reasons for admission rejection

  • Minimum eligibility criteria not met (wrong qualification, insufficient percentage)
  • Incomplete application — missing documents or signature
  • Applying for a programme where you are already admitted
  • Registration fee not paid within the deadline
  • Incorrect or mismatched personal details
  • Applying after the last date for that programme

What to do if your admission is rejected

If your admission is rejected, do not panic. Here are the steps to take:

  1. Step 1: Read the rejection reason

The portal will mention the reason for rejection. Read it carefully.

  2. Step 2: Contact your study centre

If you believe the rejection is a mistake, contact the study centre where you applied. Bring your application receipt and documents.

  3. Step 3: Reapply if eligible

If the rejection is valid, you may be able to reapply for the next admission cycle (January or July).

Frequently asked questions

How long does IGNOU take to confirm admission?
IGNOU typically confirms admissions within 2-4 weeks of the last date. During peak admission months, it may take up to 6 weeks.
Can I check my admission status without logging in?
Yes. The "Check Admission Status" option on admissions.ignou.ac.in works without a login. You need your programme code, name, and date of birth.
What should I do if my admission status is "pending"?
"Pending" or "Under Process" means your application is being reviewed. This is normal. Wait 2-3 weeks and check again. If it remains pending for more than 6 weeks, contact your study centre.
How do I get my enrolment number after admission?
Your enrolment number is generated after your admission is confirmed. You will receive it by email and SMS. You can also find it on your student card download page.
Can I change my programme after admission?
No. Once your admission is confirmed, you cannot change your programme within the same session. You would need to apply for a new programme in the next admission cycle.
