IGNOU convocation

Convocation is the ceremony and the degree. It is not how you get a subject-wise marksheet, and skipping the registration window is how the degree sits in a warehouse.

Who is eligible

You become eligible after the university has processed completion of the programme — not after you sit the last TEE. A leftover assignment can keep you off that year’s list even if you already bought travel.

  • Check the grade card first. Not Completed on one course is a stop.
  • The circular lists which completion batches are covered that year. Last year’s leftover names sometimes roll forward. Sometimes they do not.
  • Gold medals and ranks, if any, are announced in that cycle’s notices. Do not pay a third party to “nominate” you.

Registration is a window, not a standing form

There is no permanent “convocation login” worth bookmarking for five years. Each convocation gets a fresh notice on ignou.ac.in. That notice names the form, the fee, and the last date. Extensions happen. The first date is the one you write in the calendar.

In person
You attend at the venue printed for your regional centre or at the headquarters event if the circular says so. Carry the ID the notice lists.
In absentia
You skip the hall. The degree is meant to be dispatched to the address on record. Update that address before you tick the box.

The degree is not the marksheet

The degree certificate is the award. The final grade card / marksheet is the subject-wise record, issued through Student Evaluation Division. Registering for convocation does not replace a missing marksheet application.

Need the subject-wise sheet?

That is SED, not the convocation counter.

If you missed this year’s window

Read the next circular. Some years allow a late list. Some years you wait. Emailing the vice-chancellor is not a process. Keep the grade-card print and the completion proof you already have.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to attend in person to get the degree?
No. In-absentia is the usual alternative when the form offers it. You still have to register and pay in the window.
Will the degree come to my study centre?
Follow the circular. Many in-absentia certificates are posted to the address on your student record, not to the study centre coordinator’s desk.
Can I collect a relative’s degree?
Only if that year’s notice allows a representative, with the documents it lists. Do not assume last year’s rule still holds.
